Description of the VSC8582XKS-11

The dual-port VSC8582 GbE PHY with Intellisec and VeriTime is ideal for securing cloud network applications such as e-commerce, databases, collaboration, smart grid, video, and enterprise or government communications.

Intellisec enables a realistic and affordable Layer 2 MACsec security solution, a patent-pending technology that enables IEEE 802.1AE MACsec end-to-end encryption on any network, including multi-carrier and cloud-based networks, independent of the network's knowledge of the security protocol. Intellisec is not limited to traditional box-to-box applications based on MACsec links. Likewise, Intellisec can be easily scaled based on the number of interfaces, resulting in significant savings in network deployment costs.

VeriTime™ is Microchip's patent-pending timing technology that enables the industry's most accurate IEEE 1588v2 timing. Integrating MACsec and IEEE 1588v2 timestamps in the physical layer is an efficient, cost-effective way to protect data traveling through the network while maintaining highly accurate time of day (ToD). For these applications, the device supports SPI interface daisy-chaining for IEEE 1588v2 timestamping to reduce the number of pins required for the target ASIC, SoC, or FPGA.
