Their unique single-chip design, integrating two complete Wi-Fi transceivers (including MAC, PHY and RF), enables a compact 2x2+2x2 solution that balances performance with miniaturisation requirements, making it suitable for a wide range of device form factors.

 

This product series supports concurrent operation across the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, with the 5GHz band supporting channel bandwidths of up to 160MHz, enabling gigabit-aggregated PHY data link speeds and significantly enhancing data transfer rates and network throughput. The dual-band functionality dynamically selects the optimal band based on real-time network conditions, effectively avoiding congestion and interference in the 2.4GHz band. In terms of audio experience, Renesas’ wireless audio solutions support sampling rates of up to 48kHz and feature a customised Opus high-fidelity audio codec, whilst also being compatible with G.726 and G.722 wideband and narrowband voice codecs. Combined with acoustic echo cancellation, noise reduction, and microphone and speaker equalisation technologies, they reproduce clear, nuanced audio quality. Its fixed low-latency characteristics enable synchronised transmission of audio and video, making it suitable for latency-sensitive scenarios such as gaming, multimedia and professional conferencing.

 

The product also offers high integration and flexibility, featuring embedded firmware and SmartBeat™ software support. This series of MCUs features a 160MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33 CPU core, 704KB of SRAM, and integrated communication interfaces and analogue peripherals. Customers may also utilise them as connectivity and network expansion modules in conjunction with Renesas’ RA series host MCUs, enabling seamless software reuse and enhancing development efficiency.

 

Ultra-low power consumption is one of the core advantages of Renesas’ Wi-Fi MCUs. Through technologies such as dynamic deactivation of unused MCU modules, Target Wake-Time (TWT) and ‘sleep connectivity’, they achieve maximum energy efficiency. Power consumption in sleep mode ranges from as low as 200 nA to 4 μA, whilst in Data Traffic Indication Message (DTIM10) mode, it is less than 50 μA. This extends battery life to one year or longer, making it ideally suited for battery-powered IoT devices such as environmental sensors, smart locks, thermostats, pet trackers and medical monitors, meeting the requirements of always-on, low-power applications.

 

In terms of connectivity, products such as the RA6W1 and RA6W2 support dual-band Wi-Fi 6, enabling dynamic switching between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and offering exceptional throughput and low latency. Furthermore, the RA6W2 integrates Low Energy Bluetooth (LE) technology, enabling dual-mode Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, thereby further expanding application scenarios.
