Suitable for edge AI scenarios such as wearable devices, AR/VR accessories, audio equipment and video surveillance, it endows embedded devices with intelligent capabilities whilst maintaining low power consumption and minimal memory footprint.

In terms of architectural design, the PSoC™ Edge adopts a multi-domain architecture to strike a balance between high performance and fine-grained power optimisation: the high-performance domain features an Arm® Cortex®-M55 CPU with Helium™ DSP, responsible for intensive computational tasks; the low-power domain utilises an Arm® Cortex®-M33 core, paired with Infineon’s NNLite hardware accelerator, specifically tailored for always-on AI/ML applications, enabling efficient acceleration of neural network operations. Furthermore, the series integrates ultra-low-power RRAM technology and a comprehensive range of peripherals, effectively reducing system BOM costs, whilst a highly integrated analogue subsystem further enhances application adaptability.

In terms of interaction and security, PSoC™ Edge supports a variety of advanced HMI interfaces, including far-field audio multi-microphone interfaces, local voice and cloud voice functions, enabling frictionless interaction and a secure visual experience; security performance meets Infineon’s Edge Protection Category 4, integrating a secure area within the low-power always-on domain to provide secure boot, key storage and encryption operations, and supporting the Trusted Firmware-M and Mbed-TLS encryption protocols. In terms of the development ecosystem, the series is compatible with the ModusToolbox™ development environment and the DEEPCRAFT™ Edge AI software platform. The latter helps developers rapidly develop custom AI models or integrate off-the-shelf solutions, significantly reducing time-to-market, whilst providing hardware support such as the PSoC™ E84 evaluation kit and AI kit to lower the development barrier.

3. PSoC™ 6: High-Performance, Low-Power General-Purpose MCU

The PSoC™ 6 series is a high-performance, general-purpose microcontroller within the Infineon PSoC™ family. With a dual-core architecture, ultra-low power consumption and high integration as its core strengths, it is widely used in IoT end devices, wearable devices, smart home applications and industrial sensing scenarios. It is particularly suitable for battery-powered portable devices, balancing performance and power consumption requirements.

The series employs a dual-core architecture comprising an Arm® Cortex®-M4F (high-performance core) and an Arm® Cortex®-M0+ (low-power core), enabling flexible task allocation—the high-performance core handles complex computation, communication and control tasks, whilst the low-power core manages simple monitoring and wake-up tasks, significantly reducing overall system power consumption. Represented by the PSoC™ 62 series, its various sub-models (62x4, 62x5, 62x6/62x7, 62x8/62xA) offer a range of storage capacities and peripheral configurations, with flash memory ranging from 256KB to 2048KB, SRAM from 128KB to 1024KB, and up to 102 I/O pins, catering to applications of varying complexity.

In terms of peripheral integration, the PSoC™ 6 series is equipped with a rich array of digital and analogue peripherals, including the SMIF external memory interface, multi-channel SCB (I2C/SPI/UART), TCPWM timer/counter/PWM, CAN-FD, USB-FS and other digital peripherals, as well as 12-bit multi-channel SAR ADCs, DACs, operational amplifiers and comparators. It also integrates CAPSENSE™ touch technology, enabling capacitive touch control without the need for additional chips. In terms of development support, the series is compatible with the ModusToolbox™ and PSoC Creator development environments, providing a wealth of code examples and middleware, and supporting multiple compilers and industry-standard development tools to reduce development complexity.

IV. PSoC™ 4: Entry-level, cost-effective general-purpose MCU

The PSoC™ 4 series is an entry-level programmable system-on-chip (SoC) MCU launched by Infineon for low-to-mid-range applications. Positioned around high integration, flexibility, ease of use and cost-effectiveness, it is primarily aimed at scenarios such as capacitive touch control, simple motor control, IoT nodes and small appliance control. It represents a cost-effective alternative to traditional MCUs, whilst also offering automotive-grade variants suitable for in-vehicle applications.

In terms of core configuration, the PSoC™ 4 series primarily utilises Arm® Cortex-M0 or Cortex-M0+ cores, with clock speeds ranging from 16 MHz to 48 MHz, capable of meeting the requirements of most entry-level control applications. In terms of memory, Flash memory capacities range from 16KB to 256KB, whilst SRAM capacities range from 2KB to 32KB, allowing for flexible selection based on application requirements. Its standout feature is the integration of Infineon’s CAPSENSE™ touch technology, which enables touch interaction functions such as buttons, sliders and touchpads without the need for additional components. Offering high sensitivity and strong noise immunity, it is widely used in applications such as home appliance panels and consumer electronics control.

In terms of architectural design, the PSoC™ 4 integrates programmable analogue and digital peripherals. The digital section’s UDB (Universal Digital Block) can be configured as common peripherals such as counters, timers and PWM, whilst the analogue section allows flexible interconnection to build complex analogue front-ends such as filters, DACs and instrumentation amplifiers. Low-level driver development can be completed using graphical tools, eliminating the need for manual coding. It boasts outstanding low-power characteristics, with some models supporting a deep sleep mode that reduces power consumption to as low as tens of nA, making it suitable for battery-powered devices. In terms of development, the series supports two development environments—PSoC Creator and ModusToolbox™—and offers a range of low-cost starter kits to lower the entry barrier. Among these, the automotive-grade PSoC™ 4 HVMS derivative models integrate fifth-generation CAPSENSE™ technology and high-voltage power supply capabilities. Compliant with the ISO 26262 ASIL-B standard, they are suitable for applications such as in-vehicle touch buttons, steering wheel hand detection and smart door handles.

5. PSoC™ Automotive-Grade Multi-Touch: MCUs Dedicated to In-Vehicle Smart Interaction

The PSoC™ Automotive Multi-Touch series is a range of high-performance touch control MCUs developed by Infineon specifically for automotive applications.
