Supply/Recycle Hynetek HUSB239 High Integrated Stand-Alone USB Type-C PD Controller For EPR Mode
Shenzhen Mingjiada Electronics Co., Ltd. has emerged as a leader in electronic component recycling and distribution through its extensive product portfolio, global perspective, and specialised services. The company supplies and recycles the Hynetek HUSB239 High Integrated Stand-Alone USB Type-C PD Controller.
1. HUSB239 Product Overview
The HUSB239 is a highly integrated, fully autonomous USB Type-C and USB PD DRP controller supporting applications up to 48V 5A. It supports CC logic, USB PD protocols, and legacy proprietary protocols. Users may freely configure the HUSB239 as either a Sink or DRP. Additionally, it supports identification of debugging accessories and audio accessories. The HUSB239 operates in two modes: I²C mode and GPIO mode. In I²C mode, an I²C host can access the HUSB239 configuration settings, read status, and implement advanced functions such as Power Role Swap (PR_Swap), Data Role Swap (DR_Swap), and VDM information. In I2C mode, the HUSB239 also supports PPS, SPR AVS, EPR AVS, and 48 V / 5 A EPR RDO. When operating as a Sink in GPIO mode, the requested voltage and current can be set via VSET and ISET resistor values, supporting requests up to 28 V / 3.25 A. When operating as a Source, the HUSB239 supports 5V output with broadcast current configurable via the SRC_ISET pin. Its ultra-low operating current contributes to reduced overall system power consumption.
2. Understanding USB Type-C Power Roles
Within the Type-C ecosystem, devices are categorised into distinct roles: DFP (Downstream Port, powering), UFP (Upstream Port, powered), and DRP (Dual Role Port, capable of switching between powering/powered states).
The HUSB239's value lies in its full support for DRP mode, liberating devices from fixed roles as either charger or charge recipient. Instead, they dynamically switch between roles based on connection status and requirements, enabling more flexible power management.
Traditional devices typically require complex software programming to achieve this functionality. In contrast, the HUSB239 is a fully autonomous controller requiring no software programming whatsoever. It is plug-and-play, significantly reducing design complexity.

3. Dual-mode operation: Adapting flexibly to diverse requirements
The HUSB239 incorporates two operational modes to deliver optimal solutions for different application scenarios. I²C mode supports the most comprehensive functionality, including all DRP features, PPS dynamic voltage regulation, and 48V/5A power delivery capability.
Via the I2C interface, the host controller can read chip status, configure parameters, and enable advanced functions such as PR_SWAP (power role switching), DR_SWAP (data role switching), and VDM (vendor-defined messages).
GPIO mode enables basic charging functionality through simple external resistor configuration. In this mode, the HUSB239 supports power requests up to 28V/3.25A, making it suitable for applications prioritising cost efficiency and design simplicity.
4. More than just fast charging – a universal adapter
The HUSB239 not only supports the latest USB PD 3.1 protocol but also maintains backward compatibility with a wide range of traditional fast-charging protocols, including BC1.2, Apple Divider 3, QC 2.0, and AFC.
This means devices equipped with HUSB239 can deliver rapid charging to mobile devices across multiple brands, regardless of the specific fast-charging protocol employed. In practical applications, this feature significantly enhances device compatibility, reducing users' reliance on different chargers.
Notably, HUSB239 also supports SOP detection and simulated eMarker functionality. This enables devices to recognise and respond to specific cable information, ensuring both the safety and efficiency of power transmission.
5. Expanded Application Domains
HUSB239's high integration and flexibility render it suitable for diverse sectors. Power tools represent a prime application scenario, where USB PD 3.1's 240W high-power output fully satisfies most power tool charging requirements, accelerating the trend towards cordless operation.
Within consumer electronics, devices ranging from wireless speakers and POS terminals to headphones can leverage the HUSB239 for more flexible charging and power delivery capabilities. A bidirectional charging Bluetooth speaker, for instance, can function as an audio playback device during the day and reverse-charge a mobile phone at night.
For higher-power applications such as portable energy storage devices and industrial control power supplies, the HUSB239's 48V/5A EPR support fulfils demands for high power and efficiency.
6. Core Performance and Protection Mechanisms
HUSB239 employs a compact 3mm x 3mm QFN-16L package, integrating extensive functionality within minimal space. Its ultra-low operating current design helps reduce overall system power consumption, making it particularly suitable for battery-powered devices.
Comprehensive protection mechanisms are another highlight of HUSB239. It incorporates overvoltage protection (OVP), undervoltage protection (UVP), and overtemperature protection (OTP), ensuring both device and user safety under various abnormal conditions.
Regarding power supply methods, the HUSB239 supports power delivery via either the VDD or VBUS pins, offering greater design flexibility. When operating as a power output in GPIO mode, the SRC_ISET pin allows engineers to configure broadcast current, optimising power delivery efficiency.
