LTC4301LCMS8 Hot Swappable 2-Wire Bus Buffer with 1 V Level Translation, 8-Lead MSOP

The LTC4301LCMS8 is a hot swappable 2-wire bus buffer that also translates low voltage logic to standard rails. Signals as low as 1 V on the input side are shifted to 3.3 V or 5 V on the output side, so an FPGA, DSP or baseband device running from a 1 V core supply can sit on the same I2C bus as 3.3 V and 5 V peripherals.

The input side accepts bus pull-ups down to 1 V on SDAIN and SCLIN, which is below the threshold that ordinary buffers need. On the output side the bus runs at the system rail, so existing 3.3 V or 5 V devices keep their margins and their rise times.

Live insertion protection is the same as the rest of the family: the card is isolated until the CS pin enables the connection, both lines carry a 1 V precharge, and SDA and SCL go high impedance when VCC is 0 V so an unpowered card does not load the bus. Pins are rated to 10 kV human body model ESD.

Clock stretching, arbitration and synchronization pass through unchanged, and the part meets I2C, Fast Mode and SMBus timing up to 400 kHz. It is supplied in the 8-lead MSOP and specified from 0 C to 70 C for the C grade.
