MAX22502EATC Integrated Circuit Chip 100Mbps Full-Duplex RS-485/RS-422 Transceiver IC, TDFN

The MAX22502EATC is a full-duplex, ESD-protected RS-485/RS-422 transceiver built for high speed links of up to 100Mbps over long cables. Integrated preemphasis compensates the inter-symbol interference that builds up on long cable runs, extending the reach and the usable data rate of the link when the part is supplied from 5V.

Receiver hysteresis is larger than in standard transceivers and the receiver thresholds are symmetrical, which improves noise rejection and keeps duty cycle stable on backplane and field bus wiring. A fail-safe receiver holds a logic high on the output when the inputs are shorted or open for longer than 10us typical, and hot swap protection allows a board to be inserted into an active bus.

Protection is built in rather than added around the part: 15kV human body model ESD, 7kV IEC 61000-4-2 air gap and 6kV contact discharge, short circuit protected driver outputs, and a -15V to +15V common mode range that survives ground differences between distant nodes.

The supply range is 3V to 5.5V with a separate logic supply down to 1.6V, so the transceiver can sit directly on a low voltage microcontroller, and shutdown current is 5uA maximum. The MAX22502EATC is supplied in a 12-pin TDFN-EP package measuring 3mm x 3mm, specified from -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C.
