LTC2865IDE Integrated Circuit Chip Fault Protected RS485 RS422 Full Duplex Transceiver, 12-Lead DFN

Field wiring in industrial RS485 networks is regularly shorted to supply rails during installation or maintenance, and the LTC2865IDE is built for that environment: the bus pins hold off ±60V faults in every mode, including when the transceiver is powered down and the bus is still live.

The device runs from 3V to 5.5V and covers -40°C to 85°C (I grade), which lets one part number serve control cabinets, remote IO and outdoor enclosures. Full duplex operation with separate driver and receiver enables suits four wire links, and the 20Mbps rate can be reduced to a 250kbps slew rate limited mode where low radiated emission matters more than speed.

Guaranteed ±25V common mode range and balanced differential receiver thresholds keep duty cycle distortion low on long cable runs, while the fail-safe receiver prevents spurious starts when the bus is unterminated, idle or shorted. Up to 256 nodes can share one bus thanks to the high input impedance.

A dedicated VL pin accepts 1.65V to 5.5V so the digital side can follow a modern low voltage MCU, and the interface pins carry ±15kV HBM ESD with ±8kV on all other pins. Current limited drivers and thermal shutdown protect the part during bus contention, and the pinout is compatible with the LT1785 and LT1791 for drop-in replacement.
