MAX14943GWE Integrated Circuit Chip 5kV RMS Isolated 20Mbps PROFIBUS Transceiver, SOIC Wide Body

The MAX14943GWE is an isolated RS-485/PROFIBUS-DP transceiver that provides 5 kV RMS of galvanic isolation for 60 seconds between the cable side driver and receiver and the UART side of the device, breaking ground loops between ports at different ground potentials.

Cable side power comes from an integrated LDO, and an integrated transformer driver transfers up to 150mA to the isolated side at around 80% efficiency, so no separate isolated supply module is needed. Data rates reach 20 Mbps, and the receiver loading allows up to 128 devices on one bus.

Protection covers ±35kV human body model ESD on the driver outputs and receiver inputs, ±10kV surge immunity to IEC 61000-4-5, undervoltage lockout and thermal shutdown, while true fail-safe circuitry holds a logic high output when the inputs are shorted or open.

Isolation ratings are 1200 V peak maximum repetitive peak isolation voltage and 848 V RMS maximum working isolation voltage, with a projected lifetime above 30 years at rated working voltage. The device is compliant with the RS-485 EIA/TIA-485 standard and the EIA 61158-2 Type 3 PROFIBUS-DP specification.
