The MAX14838GTC is an industrial sensor output driver whose output stage can be set by pin strapping as a high side (PNP), low side (NPN) or push-pull driver, and whose logic can be configured as normally open or normally closed, so one part number covers several sensor variants.

Protection includes reverse polarity protection on DO, VCC and GND, short circuit protection on the driver, an active low FAULT output for diagnostics, VCC hot plug protection, thermal shutdown, ±1kV/500 ohm surge protection and IEC 61000-4-2 ESD of ±8kV air gap and ±6kV contact.

Fast turn off of inductive loads up to 1.5H keeps switch-off transients under control without external clamps, and operation is specified from -40°C to +105°C.
